He succeeds Renato Lima de Oliveira and will take office next September in Paris.
During the first day of the SSVP General Assembly, Juan Manuel Buergo Gómez was elected as the 17th President General, succeeding Renato Lima de Oliveira. His inauguration will take place, God willing, next September in Paris, on the feast of Blessed Antoine Frédéric Ozanam.
The election took place on the afternoon of June 13, after the opening speech of Renato Lima de Oliveira, the Vice President General, Joseph Pandian, explained to the attendees the process of the voting.
Once elected, Juan Manuel Buergo Gómez had the opportunity to address for the first time all those attending the Assembly and all members around the world through a live broadcast by Ozanam TV.

The SSVP Concordat meeting was also held with the renewal ceremony of its members and, finally, a collaboration agreement was signed with the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations (WUCWO), represented on this occasion by María Lia Zervino. WUCWO was founded in 1910 and currently has nearly 100 women’s organizations around the world, is active in more than 50 countries and has a total of 8 million women members.
