Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Madras Central Council, Empowers Communities Through Microfinance

Venue: Our Lady of Rosary Conference, Manavalanagar

In a heartening endeavour aimed at uplifting the underprivileged and fostering self-sustainability, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Madras Central Council, proudly inaugurated its Microfinance for Self-help Groups project on July 29, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., held at Our Lady of Rosary Conference in Manavalanagar.

The noble initiative was graced by several esteemed personalities, including Bro. Mangalraj, President of the National Council of India, and Bro. A. Lawrence, President of Madras Central Council. The presence of Bro. J. Babu, Vice-President of Madras Central Council, Bro. Bosco, Project Officer of the National Council of India, and Bro. John Britto Stephen, President of Tiruvallur Area Council, further added significance to the event. 

Additionally, the event was blessed with the gracious presence of two revered spiritual leaders, Rev. Fr. Arun Durai, parish priest of Manavalanagar, and Rev. Fr. Balraj, parish priest of Thozhuthavoor, who offered their support and blessings for the project's success.

Bro. Arockia Alexander, Bro. Joy Sebastian, and Bro. Motcha Alangaram, the formation committee members and Bro. Kingsly, President of St. Francis de Sales Conference, Tiruvallur, also actively participated in the inauguration.

This auspicious occasion was successfully hosted by the members of Our Lady of Rosary Conference, under the able leadership of Bro. Leoraj. Their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in organizing the event deserve heartfelt appreciation.

During the inauguration ceremony, eight deserving beneficiaries were presented with cheques, amounting to a total of Rs. 160,000/-. These beneficiaries were carefully selected based on their business proposals, which ranged from embroidery ventures and petty shops to tiffin shops and saree businesses.

The beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity provided by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. With this initial financial aid, they now have the means to turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality. As part of the project's terms, the recipients will utilize the funds to establish their businesses and repay the amount in affordable monthly instalments.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Madras Central Council, firmly believes that this initiative will serve as a stepping stone for a brighter, more self-sustaining future for the beneficiaries and the community at large. With continued dedication and support, the Society looks forward to creating a significant and lasting impact in the lives of the less fortunate.
