INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION. NATIONAL COUNCIL OF INDIA. 2026 MARCH 8

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul  National Council of India joyfully commemorated International Women’s Day 2026 with a meaningful online gathering that brought together Vincentian members from different regions of the country.

 The programme reflected the Society’s deep appreciation for the invaluable role played by women in strengthening the Vincentian mission of charity, compassion, and service. International Women’s Day is an important occasion celebrated worldwide to recognize the achievements, sacrifices, and leadership of women in every sphere of life. It also reminds us of the continuing journey toward equality, dignity, and empowerment. Within the Vincentian family inspired by St. Vincent de Paul, women have always been pillars of strength, actively participating in charitable works and reaching out to the poor and marginalized with dedication and love.


The aim of the programme was to acknowledge and appreciate the remarkable contribution of women in the Vincentian mission, to encourage greater participation and leadership among women members, and to strengthen the spirit of unity and service within the Society.

The programme began with a prayer led by Sr. Joyce Quepem from the Western Region, invoking God’s blessings on all participants. This was followed by the Bible reading by Sr. Lourde Mary from the Tamil Nadu Region, which set a reflective and prayerful tone for the gathering.

The welcome address was delivered by Sr. Jolly Sebastian, Lady Representative of the National Council of India, who warmly greeted the participants and highlighted the important role played by women in the Vincentian mission across the country.

A pastoral message was shared by Rev. Dr. Thomas Melvettothu, Cathedral Vicar and Rector of the Minor Seminary of the Archdiocese of Tellicherry. In his inspiring message, he encouraged the members to continue their service with faith, compassion, and dedication, reminding them that true charity reflects the love of Christ.

The presidential address was delivered by Bro. S. Jude Z. R. Mangalraj, President of the National Council of India. He appreciated the tireless efforts of women Vincentians and encouraged them to continue their active involvement in the Society’s charitable activities.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Bro. Dr. A. Francis, Vice President of the National Council of India, who emphasized the importance of unity and commitment in strengthening the Vincentian mission.

A special Women’s Day message was delivered by Sr. Mbakiki Sihri, President of the National Council of Israel. Her inspiring words highlighted the global solidarity of the Vincentian family and the powerful contribution of women in building a more compassionate and just society.


The programme also included felicitations from representatives of different regions: 

 Their messages reflected appreciation and encouragement for the dedicated service rendered by women members across the country.
  The celebration served as a reminder of the strength, dedication, and compassionate leadership of women within the Vincentian family and reaffirmed the commitment of the Society to continue working together in service of the poor and the needy.
